About us
Elmar C. Fuchs (Klagenfurt, Austria, 1975) is a physicist/chemist, program manager at Wetsus (European Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology, in Leeuwarden). His area of expertise is the interaction between water and electric and magnetic fields. He is mainly known for his research on the ‘floating water bridge’. Fuchs’ research was featured in the prestigious Nature magazine and was decorated twice by the Journal of Physics (2007, 2016), he published over 50 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has given more than 50 invited lectures all around the world. Apart from his scientifc career, Fuchs is a musician (eloah.at) and has been practicing martial arts (Kendo, Iaido, Jodo, Tameshi Giri, Tai Chi Chuan) since 1995.
Gerrit Oudakker (Hillegom, The Netherlands, 1942) spent his career working for an international construction company that eventually became Volker Wessels after several mergers. He received formal training as a civil engineer and worked on numerous large projects, primarily focused on port and harbor constructions across Europe, Africa, and Asia. During his career, he developed a new semi-underground construction technology and eventually transitioned to a role as a technology scout, exploring challenging opportunities around the world. After retiring, he was asked by the newly formed European Center of Excellence in Sustainable Water Technology (Wetsus) to continue in the same function, taking over several projects he had initiated at his previous employer. Currently, he serves as a Wetsus Ambassador on a voluntary basis.
Esther Kokmeijer (Dokkum, The Netherlands, 1977) is an artist and explorer residing in Rotterdam and working around the globe. In her work as a visual artist, she mainly focuses on the ‘Global Commons’, the globally shared natural resources of the earth; the oceans, the atmosphere, the universe and Antarctica. The theme of water in all its manifestations, such as liquid ‘water’, gaseous ‘vapour’ and solid ‘ice’, has played a major role in her works for several years. Her work has been exhibited and published worldwide. For various projects, she has visited 85 countries. She is the founder and publisher of Antarktikos, a magazine that is solely dedicated to Antarctica and brings together art and science (antarktikos.com).
